Red Rock Discovery Ride Review 2014 ‎(Responses)‎

This is a relaxed scenic style adventure bike ride, perfect for the bigger adventure bikes.  We will visit the great Utah Parks including: Bryce Canyon National Park, Zion National Park, Grand Staircase-Escalante Nat'l Mon, Glen Canyon National Rec Area, Arches National Park, and Capitol Reef National Park.  Our route will take us through Bullfrog Landing and Across Lake Powell on the Ferry

This is a point to point ride where we will be spending each night in a different city and motel.  You will need to carry all your own gear on your motorcycle.

(Well not this much because no camping this time)

This ride will be mostly paved back roads, and there will be some options for dirt graded roads, This ride is a good ride for beginning riders and riders that simple want a great scenic back adventure.  Couple are welcome, but you should be an intermediate or advanced rider.

Slideshow of what you are likely to see on the ride

We will meet  in St George Utah on Saturday evening for a group dinner and rider meeting.
The ride will begin on Sunday morning

Self Guided Trail

This ride is designed to be a self guided adventure. Riders install a custom GPS microSD Card into their Garmin GPS unit. The routes are then displayed as the rider travels along.  Navigation is made easy.  Riders can choose to follow along at times or can choose among hard and easy options.  Or riders can simply choose to ride off the routes and return to them later.  For many, this allows them to just experience the trail without the burden of getting lost.

Ride Plan Details

Red Rock Discovery Trail

OK since many of you might like to study more detail about the ride, below is a ton of info about the plan and routes.

Ride Plan Maps
I put these ride maps on the web page because I know a few of you love looking at the ride detail and dreaming about the ride.  At first glance these maps do not look so impressive, but they are way cool.  If you click the Earth or Satellite tab and start zooming in, you can see the ride in incredible detail.   I have spent a ton of hours sorting through the details of the ride for each day, so for those of you that enjoy this sort of thing, well enjoy!
Legend:
The Red lines are harder options
The Blue lines are main routes
The Green lines are a mix of easy routes

Q:What will the weather be like this time of year?
A: In April, the weather is often nice, could be a little cold in the morning and in the mountains.  But sometimes there can be rain and snow.  Some years the snow in the mountains is a problem.  Snow can force us to change our routes.  Come prepared with extra gear for cold and wet.

A: Yes, but  almost everyone hooks up and rides with a friend, or a new friend. See my video on Ride Navigation.
