The Story of Roulette Rides

"Roulette rides are a passion for me. Roulette is my ride name because it is a kind of gamble. The ride could be anything. In the early 2000's I started the ride with the desire to discover new places and great rides. I had the feeling that all the great rides were being closed down. I would soon learn that while ride areas are being closed, it is a very rich world and there are more great rides than I can ever ride. So the quest began: lets discover the best rides and "do it all". So each year the Roulette is only about discovering new great places and rides. Each year the ride is new, and it is a gamble, sometimes it does not work, and riders are left to their own accord to figure it out. But most of the time it is spectacular. Incredible new places to experience. I now have a long time following of great riders who enjoy the experience each year, so some wish that we could repeat some of the great trails that we have discovered, but that is not for the Roulette. Greats rides are for those who have not ridden them before, but for the Roulette team, the great places are yet to discover. So that is the spirit of the Roulette, it's an experience and adventure that holds a bit of a gamble."

FAQ's

Q:What will the weather be like this time of year?

A: Most likely the weather will be great. Most years the mornings can be a cool 40 to 50 deg and the days can be 70 to 80 deg. But sometimes there can be rain. It can be cold in the mountains. I recommend carrying extra clothes. Check the weather report before packing and bring extra warm gear in your overnight bags just in case.

Q: What gas mileage range do I need for his ride?

A: The longest distance between gas stations could be 125 miles. You should come with the ability to go 140 miles just in case.

Q; What do I do if I don't have a garmin gps?

A: Buy one, you need it, we will show you how to use it. You can get a great one for $180 bucks. (See gpsKevin's gps recommendations)

Q: Is the riding really on my own?

A: Yes,of course you are responsible for yourself, but everyone hooks up and rides with a friend, or a new friend.

Q:How does the ride navigation work?

This is a self-led GPS ride; all riding is on your own. You are responsible for your own riding. You will be given a GPS map file and instructions on how to use your Garmin GPS unit. People will hook up in small groups of less than 6 riders and tend to ride together. You are not encouraged to ride alone. You are responsible for your own riding and yourself.

(see my ride Navigation Video)

Q:Are you right for this ride?

When something goes wrong on a ride, would your riding friends say that you are more likely to need help or more likely to give help? You should be in the more likely to offer help camp. This ride is filled with riders that are more likely to give help, so most of the time the riders never need help. Additionally there is all the normal stuff, come prepared to maintain your bike, fix your bike on the trail, repair flat tires, deal with bad weather and rain and make a joke or two.

Q:How do I make the GPS stuff so easy?

I develop very high quality ride maps custom for our ride. They come from much of what I and others have ridden. I take the best from all my rides and make new ones.

(See my Custom Ride Maps Video)

Note from me, gpsKevin

My goal for this ride is simple, great riding, so you can count on great routes and places to ride.

But in addition: the ride is about discovering new places, meeting new friends, seeing new parts of the Southwest.
